Thane: A tragic rail accident near Mumbra station in Thane claimed the lives of at least five individuals and left seven others injured on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. when a Kasara-bound local train, which had departed from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), was moving through the Diva-Mumbra stretch.
According to Central Railway officials, the mishap unfolded when several passengers, who were hanging on the footboard of the train, came into contact with commuters clinging to another oncoming train headed towards CSMT. The sudden and forceful collision caused multiple people to fall from the moving trains, leading to the casualties.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise sequence of events that led to the deadly accident. Central Railway has confirmed the involvement of two trains traveling in opposite directions and acknowledged that overcrowding on the footboards contributed to the tragedy.
