‘Sweet box bribe’ for journalists, activist group files a complaint with Lokayukta

CM Bommai

Bengaluru: The Janadhikar Sangharsha Parishat (JSP) has filed a complaint with the Lokayukta police against the media coordinator for Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for allegedly attempting to bribe chief reporters and political journalists with Deepavali gifts.

On Deepavali, an official from the Chief Minister’s office allegedly delivered “cash gifts” ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.50 lakh, along with sweet boxes, to some reporters.

A few of the journalists who allegedly received the gift returned it to CMO after they came to know that the gift contained cash when they opened it. A Bengaluru journalist told us that a senior journalist received the “sweet box” gift from the CMO, and he opened the box to distribute the sweets to his colleagues, but he found cash along with the sweets. He immediately brought this to his editor in the office, and later they returned the gift to CM’s office.

The Congress party has hit out at the BJP government on this issue and CM Bommai over this issue and demanded an explanation from the government.
