Statewide Yellow Alert in Karnataka; Rain and Winds to Intensify

Bengaluru: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 28 districts across the state, warning of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds starting Monday.

 

Except for the coastal districts of Uttara Kannada, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada, all other districts have been placed under a yellow alert. Light to moderate rain is expected in parts of the coastal districts on Monday and Tuesday, and a yellow alert has been extended to these districts as well on Wednesday. In some areas, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 km/h.

 

In North Interior Karnataka, districts such as Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, and Gadag may experience heavy rain with wind speeds of 40 to 50 km/h in one or two places on Monday. In Bidar, Kalaburagi, Haveri, Belagavi, Dharwad, and Yadgir, moderate rain with gusty winds is expected in several areas.

 

In South Interior Karnataka, districts including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur, Chamarajanagar, Mandya, Ramanagara, Chitradurga, Davangere, Tumakuru, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Mysuru, Kodagu, Ballari, Vijayanagara, and Kolar are likely to witness thunderstorms with heavy rain and wind speeds of 40 to 50 km/h, according to the forecast.

 

The department also warned that rain intensity may increase in various parts of the state starting Thursday.
