New Delhi, 26 May (HS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has written a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah demanding that Gujarat-based dairy company ‘Amul’ be directed to stop procuring milk from Tamil Nadu with immediate effect.
In a letter to Shah, Stalin said Amul has used a multi-state cooperative license to set up a ‘chilling centre’ and processing plant in Krishnagiri district. Along with this, Amul plans to buy milk through FPOs and SHGs in Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts in Tamil Nadu, the chief minister said. However, it has been a rule in the country that cooperatives are allowed to flourish without encroaching on each other’s ‘milk-shed’ area.
