Kalaburagi, May 13: In yet another troubling incident at the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Hospital, eight staff members were trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator for over an hour, leading to chaos and panic within the facility.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning on the hospital’s third floor. Due to a technical failure, the elevator came to an abrupt halt around 10 AM and remained stuck until 11 AM. The situation was further complicated by the fact that the elevator was not designed to serve the third floor—authorities had even constructed a wall in front of the lift door on that level.
Trapped inside with no way out, the staff raised an alarm. Rescue teams were called in and had to use a drill machine to break through the wall and access the elevator door. The staff members were successfully rescued without any major injuries.
Following the rescue, all individuals underwent medical examinations and were later reassigned to their respective duties by hospital authorities.
