Kolkata, May 17 (HS): The West Bengal state government is going to provide Z-category security to Sourav Ganguly, former captain of Team India and former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Kolkata Police sources have confirmed this. It is learned that the decision has been taken in view of Ganguly’s security after recent IB inputs. A day earlier on Tuesday, the police of Thakurpukur police station had gone to Sourav Ganguly’s house along with the officers of the Special Branch of Kolkata Police.
Kolkata Traffic Police officials were also involved in it. There was a review meeting with Ganguly’s secretary for about an hour. However, neither from the side of Ganguly’s family nor from the Kolkata Police, any information has been officially given about this. But sources have told that Sourav Ganguly will be given Z-category security this week.
At present, he has got Y-category security. The terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba had threatened to kidnap Sourav Ganguly about two decades ago after which he was given Z plus security. Though later it was changed to Y.
