Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah vows to implement all five key guarantees announced during the election campaign by the Congress party. Following the maiden cabinet meeting, the CM confirms the government’s in-principal approval for the implementation of these programs.
The financial burden is estimated to be approximately Rs 50,000 crore per annum, which the government is committed to shouldering without burdening the exchequer.
Contrary to BJP’s claims, CM Siddaramaiah clarifies that the Congress promises will not empty the exchequer, as funds will be available from the 15th Finance Commission (FC). He highlights that the union government has not yet released Rs 5,495 crore recommended by the FC in the interim report.
The key programs include providing free express bus service for women of the state, issuing passes to facilitate their travel, granting Rs 2,000 to housewives, offering Rs 2,000 allowance to unemployed youth, providing Rs 1,500 monthly allowance for two years to diploma holders, and supplying 10 kg of rice per month to below poverty line (BPL) families.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasizes that the implementation details, financial implications, and modalities will be discussed before initiating the fulfillment of these promises. The programs are set to be implemented soon after the second cabinet meeting.
Immediately after the oath-taking ceremony, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and other ministers convened the first cabinet meeting at Vidhana Soudha to pass an order for the implementation of the five key poll promises made by the Congress party.
