Hubballi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled 27 of its members for a period of six years due to their involvement in anti-party activities.
Among those expelled were Mallikarjun Sawakar, Nagesh Kalaburgi, and Mahesh Burli, who were close confidants of former chief minister Jagadish Shettar. The expulsion was announced by the BJP’s Hubballi-Dharwad Central President Santosh Chavan and Hubballi-Dharwad City District President Sanjay Kapatkar.
The expelled members, who were former members of various boards and office bearers, had been actively campaigning for Shettar despite the party’s decision to field Mahesh Tenginkai as its candidate from the Central constituency. Sources indicate that these members had been extending their support to Shettar, who recently joined the Congress party after being denied a ticket by the BJP.
