Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has stated that the candidate selection process for the state elections begins as soon as the election dates are announced. If you look at the recently concluded election in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and other states, the candidates were announced after Election Commission announced the dates for the poll and the same would be followed here; he said.
Speaking to reporters, Shettar expressed confidence that his party will come to power in the state with a thumping majority and that Rahul Gandhi’s arrival in the state would only add more seats to the BJP.
Regarding the defection of some leaders from the party, Shettar said that some people defect with different aspirations, but it hardly makes any difference to the BJP as the party has grown tremendously.
On Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha, Shettar said that the action was taken against him within the legal framework and that there is a chance for him to go for an appeal in the higher courts. He also added that it is not right to stage protests on the streets.
