Bengaluru: Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar officially joined the Congress party at the KPCC office in Bengaluru on Monday, in the presence of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress leaders Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, Randeep Surjewala, and KC Venugopal.
Speaking to reporters after joining the Congress, Shettar expressed his disappointment with the treatment he received from his former party, the BJP. He stated that he was humiliated and not given the party ticket to contest in the assembly elections, despite his request.
Shettar clarified that he was not aspiring to become a minister or Chief Minister, but simply wanted a party ticket to contest the elections. He further mentioned that he had requested the party leaders to allow him to contest from the Hubballi Central constituency and work as an MLA for six months before resigning, but his pleas were not considered.
Shettar expressed his hurt and humiliation by the sudden decline of the party ticket without any prior intimation. He also criticized the BJP, stating that the party has forgotten its principle of “party first, person next,” and that in the BJP, it has become “party next, a few persons first.”
