On April 23, 2023, an Air India flight from Nagpur to Mumbai experienced an unprecedented incident where a scorpion stung a female passenger on board. While there have been cases of live birds and rats found on flights, this is an exceptionally rare occurrence of a scorpion causing harm to a passenger.
Air India confirmed the incident and assured the public that the passenger was promptly given medical treatment and is now in stable condition. After the plane landed, the passenger was attended to by a doctor at the airport before being taken to a hospital. Air India officials accompanied the passenger and offered support until she was discharged.
Air India’s engineering team immediately conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft upon receiving information about the incident. They found the scorpion and carried out the necessary fumigation process as per protocol.
Air India expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to the affected passenger and assured that all necessary measures were taken to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers on board.
