Belagavi: Former deputy chief minister of Karnataka, Laxman Savadi, who recently joined the Congress after quitting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has expressed support for his former party colleague and ex-chief minister Jagadish Shettar.
Savadi, while speaking to reporters at Belagavi airport before leaving for Athani on Saturday, questioned the BJP’s decision to not consider Shettar for a party ticket to contest the election from Hubballi Central constituency.
Savadi, who had been a long-time member of the BJP, criticized the party for deviating from its principles and treating a senior leader like Shettar poorly. He highlighted that Shettar and his family had been associated with the BJP since its inception, and there appeared to be no visible reason for denying him a ticket.
Savadi asked BJP to give the reason for not considering Shettar, he asked did Shettar was involved in any corruption. Or had done anything to bring disrepute to the party, he pointed out that other older leaders had been given tickets, but Shettar is still younger compare to them, he said.
When asked whether Shettar had contacted him or expressed willingness to join the Congress party, Savadi stated that Shettar had called a meeting of his supporters and would reveal his decision himself.
Savadi’s remarks reflect the growing discontent within the BJP in Karnataka, with senior leaders expressing dissatisfaction over ticket distribution and alleged deviation from the party’s principles. Shettar, who has been a prominent leader in the BJP, not being considered for a ticket has raised eyebrows and led to speculations about internal dynamics within the party.
