Hubballi: In an embarrassing development during the discussion on the ways to enhance the revenue of HDMC, ruling BJP members raised the issue of corruption in the corporation. Which they said has become a big issue.
BJP corporators alleged that without giving the bribe, not a single file move in the zonal offices of the HDMC. They said that people, in order to get their work done, pay bribes to the staff and officials at HDMC offices. They said that staff demand money to give building permission, CC, khata extract and other work.
The Revenue DC attempted to respond, but Tippanna Majjagi, a BJP corporator, asked how many files were pending in his office, to which the officer replied, “around 100.” Other BJP members then demanded that the mayor launch an investigation into him, suspecting that he, too, was involved in corrupt practices.
When members from both the ruling and opposition parties started alleging corruption incidents , HDMC Commissioner Dr Gopal Krishna B tried to pacify the members and said corruption practices would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against the officers and staff.
Mayor Iresh Anchatgeri directed the Commissioner to initiate a probe against Revenue DC and submit a report within 15 days and inform the members about the action he has taken against the corrupt officials in the next meeting.
Mayor himself admitted to the rampant corruption in the civic body, he said he would initiate action against officials if they give complaints in written format.
