Ron Cephas-Jones, a beloved figure recognized for his impressive acting career including two Emmy victories and a Tony nomination, has sadly left us at the age of 66.

A distinguished presence on both stage and screen, Cephas-Jones is best remembered for his portrayal of Sterling K Brown’s character’s father in the critically acclaimed family drama on NBC, This Is Us.

On August 19th, his manager Dan Spilo conveyed the heart-wrenching news of Cephas-Jones’s passing, revealing that the actor had succumbed to a prolonged pulmonary ailment.

Spilo’s statement tenderly reflected on Cephas-Jones’s legacy, underscoring his warmth, beauty, generosity, kindness, and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to cross paths with him.

Cephas-Jones, who fathered Jasmine Cephas-Jones, an original cast member of Broadway’s Hamilton, underwent a double lung transplant in 2020 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. After the procedure, he valiantly fought for his health, spending almost two months hospitalized in Los Angeles.

Born in 1957 in New Jersey, Cephas-Jones embarked on his journey by graduating from Ramapo College, initially intending to delve into jazz but eventually finding his passion in theater during his sophomore year.

In the mid-1980s, he relocated to New York, and his career took flight when he immersed himself in the creative milieu of the Nuyorican Poets Café—an essential hub for poetry, hip-hop, and performing arts that greatly catalyzed his artistic pursuits.
