Remembering Appu: youths pledged their eyes, planted saplings

Raichur-based Green Raichuru, an NGO which is doing extensive work to enhance the green coverage of the city, paid tribute to the late Sandalwood star Puneeth Rajkumar by planting 46 saplings in his memory.

The event was organised by Green Raichur, Rajavansha Abhimanigala Balaga and Navodaya Medical College at the Mavinakere lake garden.

On the occasion, 40 people came forward and pledged their eyes. The Kannada superstar donated his eyes, and this noble gesture by the actor has turned into a movement in the state, and hundreds of his followers and fans have pledged their eyes.

Encouraged by the late actor’s noble gesture, 40 Raichurians pledged their eyes for donation, and they say it is one of the ways to pay respect to the departed soul.

Speaking to, Rajendrakumar said that “We wanted to pay respect to the superstar Puneeth Rajkumar in a manner that would help the people and it should be remembered for a long time. So every Sunday we organise “green Sunday” and we decided to pay respect to Puneeth Rajkumar by planting the saplings. We will name these 46 saplings. A board will be hung next to the plants so that everyone will know the purpose of planting these plants, “he said.

Honorary president of the Green Raichuru Konda Krishnamurthy, Rajendra Shivale, Saraswathi Kilkile, Sandhya Kulkarni, Dr Venkatesh Nayak, Gururaj, Piyush Jain, members of Rajavansha Abhimanigala Balaga, Nagaraj Chinna Reddy, Prabhu, Manjunath and doctors of Navodaya Medical college were present on the occasion.
