Pune: In a tragic incident, five ladies were killed and three others sustained injuries after a speeding car (said to be an SUV) hit them while they were crossing the Pune-Nashik highway in the Pune district, the sources said.
According to local sources, the incident happened in Shiroli village, about 50 km from Pune, around 11 p.m. on Monday. The sources said that a group of 17–18 ladies were crossing the highway to go to a bridal venue for catering work.

These women had come from Pune on a local bus operated by the local government to serve as caterers at a marriage hall located on the highway. In the dark, they were crossing the highway to get to the other side when they were hit by a speeding car.
According to local police, three women were killed on the spot and two died in the hospital. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the driver.
