Hubballi: A Pune-based contractor fell victim to a staggering loss of Rs 26 lakh at the hands of miscreants near Secure Hospital in the city on Sunday.
According to the police, the contractor had journeyed to Hubballi in response to an invitation from individuals who claimed they could provide him with laborers for construction projects in his home state. The miscreants had spun a tale that Maharashtra-based contractors were notorious for irregular payments to laborers, thereby convincing the contractor to pay in advance for hiring the laborers.
Trusting their story, the contractor arrived in Hubballi with a substantial sum of Rs 26 lakh in cash. Upon meeting near Secure Hospital, the miscreants employed a clever tactic to divert the contractor’s attention. While two of the individuals engaged him in conversation, the third swiftly absconded with the bag containing the hefty amount, said the police.
The police have initiated a thorough investigation and is diligently reviewing all available CCTV footage from the vicinity. The police expressed confidence of swiftly resolving the case.
