Public Warns Congress Party: Deliver Guarantees Without “Ifs” and “Buts”

G Parameshwara

Bengaluru: There is growing skepticism among a section of the population regarding the Congress party’s five guarantees made during the state assembly election campaign. These individuals believed that the Congress party would implement these guarantees with conditions, as the party did not mention any specific terms when announcing them and their concern is likely to become true.

Media reports quoted G. Parameshwara, the Chairman of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s (KPCC) manifesto panel, who stated that the guarantees would indeed be delivered to the people, but with certain conditions.

He explained that the respective ministers responsible for each guarantee would convene and devise the implementation plan. However, the guarantees would not come without conditions, all will accept these benefits if provided freely. Parameshwar affirmed the Congress party’s commitment to implementing these guarantees, stating that they would be approved in the first cabinet meeting.

This statement by Parameshwar created a stir in the public domain, with many people asserting that the Congress party should fulfill its guarantees without any conditions or qualifications. They argued that the party should have been transparent about these conditions during the election campaign.

Many individuals viewed this situation as nothing short of “cheating,” while some even threatened to hold the party accountable in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, less than a year away, if the guarantees were not delivered satisfactorily.

The Congress party had announced five guarantees during its election campaign those were: Gruha Lakshmi, Yuva Nidhi, Anna Bhagya, Gruha Jyoti, and Sakhi.

Under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, the party pledged to provide two thousand rupees per month to every woman heading a household. The Yuva Nidhi initiative promised to offer an allowance to unemployed graduates and diploma holders in Karnataka, with ₹3,000 and ₹1,500 per month, respectively.

The Anna Bhagya program aimed to provide 10 kgs of rice per person per month to families below the poverty line. Gruha Jyoti involved the provision of 200 units of free electricity to each household in the state, while the Sakhi program offered free bus tickets for women traveling on regular express bus services within Karnataka.

The implementation of these guarantees with conditions has sparked discontent among the public. They expect the Congress party to honor their promises without any ifs and buts, and to be more transparent about the associated conditions. The upcoming Lok Sabha election looms as an opportunity for the public to voice their dissatisfaction should the Congress government fail to fulfill its commitments adequately.
