Jalna: A protest for Maratha reservation in Jalna, Maharashtra, turned violent, leaving dozens injured, including police personnel.
The demonstrators, led by Manoj Jarange, had been on a hunger strike demanding Maratha community reservation since Tuesday. The agitation escalated as some targeted state transport buses and private vehicles.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde appealed for peace and announced a high-level probe committee. The Supreme Court had previously quashed the state government’s reservation for the Maratha community. Additional police forces were deployed to Jalna.
