Hubballi: Congress candidate Prasad Abbayya won the HD East constituency seat with a comfortable margin of 32,370 votes against his nearest rival, BJP’s Dr. Krantikiran.
There were concerns that JD(S) candidate Veerabhadrappa Halaharavi and AIMIM candidate Durgappa Bijawad could potentially split the minority votes, but Halharvi only received 900 votes. AIMIM candidate Durgappa Bijawad secured 5,644 votes and failed to make an impact on the results. There were talks that Abbayya’s winning margin would be very narrow, and some even speculated that his chances of winning were only 50-50, following the intense campaign of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
