Hubballi : The police conducted a raid on the residence of Sunil Matpathi, a close aide of Congress leader Rajat Ullagaddimath, in Gopankoppa on Wednesday night. According to sources, the police had received information that Matpathi was distributing pressure cookers near Keshwapur Circle.
Rajat is a Congress party ticket aspirant to contest the upcoming assembly election from Hubballi-Dharwad (Central) constituency.
During the search of his house, the officials found four cookers of five-liter capacity, 22 steel plates, five tawas, and six kadais in Matpathi’s house. However, the utensils did not have any stickers or names of the political parties or ticket aspirants on them. Matpathi claimed that he had purchased them for his own use, during Gopankoppa fair to feed relatives and well-wishers during the event.
Politically Motivated, Found Nothing Says Rajat
Responding to the incident, Rajat Ullagaddimath alleged that the raid was politically motivated and that Matpathi’s house was searched because of his association with him. The officials who conducted the raid found nothing, and the utensils that they seized were being used by Matpathi’s family.
Rajat Ullagaddimath further stated, “They took away the cooker without emptying the rice and dal cooked in it. Recently, there was a fair in Gopankoppa, and relatives came and stayed during the fair. Not to cause them inconvenience, he purchased some extra plates and tawaa. Was this an offense? Did they find any name or sticker on those utensils? The political opponent, in fear of losing the election, resorted to such action.”
