Hubballi: Police Commissioner Labhu Ram is mulling extending “group patrolling” or “area domination patrolling,” in which police patrol in groups to keep anti-social elements at bay and instil confidence among the public.

Recently, Keshwapur police have started area domination patrolling, and the people were surprised to see a large number of police roaming in their area on bikes simultaneously. The police have said that they will continue to do this kind of patrolling once a month. However, patrolling in small groups, such as 4-5 police officers in a group, would patrol an area once a week, according to the police.

Police Commissioner Ram said that he is considering extending group patrols to all the police stations. Speaking to reporters on Friday, he stated that the police are doing everything possible to maintain law and order in the city, that in order to instil confidence and send a message to anti-social elements, this type of patrolling would be implemented in all station limits as soon as possible, and that police personnel are conducting foot patrols in sensitive areas.

In response to a question on stabbing incidents happening in the city, the commissioner said all measures would be taken to curb these incidents. A new measure will be announced soon. When asked what the measure was, the top cop said it would be revealed in a fortnight.

The people of the twin cities are worried about the growing incidents of stabbing, and they are expecting strong measures from the police commissioner. The residents said that the city by and large remained peaceful; no untoward incidents happened, and the police managed to contain the crimes.
