Hubballi-Dharwad City Police Commissioner Labhu Ram has imposed section 144 under the CrPC prohibiting any gathering, protest, or agitation around schools, colleges, and other educational institutions on Wednesday.
Ram stated in the order that the orders would be in effect until February 28. According to the order, holding an agitation, protest, assembly, or gathering within 200 metres of an educational institution has been prohibited.
Ram said that the order was essential to maintain public peace and order. The order was necessitated following the widespread of the Hijab and saffron shawl issue and many protests in other parts of the city turned violent.
In Hubballi also, a few students and community leaders staged a protest in front of a women’s college in JC Nagar on Wednesday, and the police commissioner felt that it was necessary to issue the prohibitory orders to maintain peace and quality in the twin cities.
