Hubballi: The Hubballi Dharwad Police have booked an FIR against 12 Congress party workers for allegedly burning VD Savarkar’s photo during a protest organised by the party to condemn the egg hurling incident on Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah in Dharwad.
The issue of the burning of photographs of VD Savarkar caused strong criticism from the BJP and called the Congress party men anti-nationals. As the issue of burning the photograph of Savarkar intensified, the police have registered a case against 12 Congress party workers for this act.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, said Police Commissioner Labhu Ram. He said the police would take action according to the law.
As soon as the news spread, the BJP workers staged a protest in front of Sub Urban Police Station demanding the arrest of those who dishonoured the freedom fighter. The Suburban police have registered a case based on the complaint of Bajrang Dal activist Shivanand Sattigeri, said sources.
The police booked a case under IPC sections 143, 147, 153, 504, and 149 for trying to create riots with the intention of disturbing the peace of society and hurting the sentiments of nationalists. In the FIR, Congress party president for HD-West president Arvind Egangoudar has been named as accused number one, along with Dharwad Rural president Anilkumar Patil, City district president Altaf Hallur, Nagaraj Gouri, Robert Daddapuri, and others, have been mentioned as accused in the FIR.
