PM Modi honored with Papua New Guinea’s highest civilian award

New Delhi, May 22 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred the Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu (GCL) by the Governor-General of Papua New Guinea (PNG), Sir Bob Dade, at a special ceremony at Government House. It is the highest civilian award in PNG, and the awardees are given the title ‘Chief’.

The Prime Minister said, “I am overwhelmed by Papua New Guinea conferring on me the Companion of the Order of Loghu. Gratitude to the Governor General, Sir Bob Dade, for presenting the award. It is a great recognition of the achievements of India and our people.

Earlier, Prime Minister Rabuka, on behalf of President of Fiji Ratu Willime Mavalili Katonivere, conferred Fiji’s highest honour, “The Companion of the Order of Fiji’ (CF), on Prime Minister Modi. Prime Minister Modi thanked the government and people of Fiji for this honour. I also dedicated it to the people of India and generations of the Fiji-Indian community, who have played a key role in the special and enduring bond between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Fijian Prime Minister Sitweni Ligamada Rabuka on the sidelines of the 3rd Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) summit today in Port Moresby. This was the first meeting between the two leaders. The Prime Minister recalled that FIPIC was launched during his visit to Fiji in November 2014, and since then, India’s cooperation with Pacific Island Countries (PICs) has grown stronger.
