Hubballi: AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has stated that his party is contesting in the upcoming elections in Hubballi not to ensure the victory or defeat of other parties, but to win the seats it is contesting for. He refuted the allegations that his party aims to divide Muslim votes and ridiculed claims that his party was responsible for Rahul Gandhi’s loss and the Congress party’s downfall.
Owaisi also stated that his party’s strategy is to field candidates in certain seats and not to fight elections for the victory or defeat of other parties.
On BJP’s promise to implement the Uniform Civil Code, Owaisi questioned the BJP government’s credibility, stating that the BJP government in Goa should first change the law that allows second marriage for Hindu couples if they fail to have a son. He added that the Constitution ensures the Right to Culture, which is unfettered and cannot be stopped by anyone.
Owaisi also criticized the State government’s decision to scrap the 4% Muslim quota and stated that any quota cannot be scrapped on the basis of an interim report that was not made public. He argued that the quota was made available under Articles 15 and 16 because of social and educational backwardness.
Regarding Jagadish Shettar’s joining the Congress party, Owaisi questioned the Congress party’s credibility in labeling him as an RSS man and communal all these years and then giving him a certificate of secularism after he joined the Congress.
Earlier, Owaisi met with Muslim intellectuals and religious leaders in Hubballi and sought their help in electing his candidate for the Hubballi-Dharwad East assembly segment. He clarified that his party is contesting in only two seats in the State and is supporting a candidate in Jamakhandi, and that the election is being contested to defeat the BJP.
He also emphasized the importance of representatives standing with the community during difficult times, referring to legal help extended to Muslim youth arrested in Hubballi violence last year.
