Smriti Irani, Nirmala Sitharaman, and other women BJP MPs condemned the Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary on Thursday for insulting women and tribals in India after Congress mp Adhir Chowdhury allegedly referred to President of India Droupadi Murmu as ‘Rashtrapatni.’ Smriti Irani said the Congress should apologise in Parliament and on the streets of India, adding that despite being led by a woman, Sonia Gandhi, Congressmen continue to denigrate women in constitutional positions. Protests to Adhir Chowdhury’s remark forced both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha to adjourn till midday.
All India Radio News took to Koo, a microblogging site to share information about the protest.
AIR in a Koo, post wrote, “BJP MPs today held a protest in the Parliament House Complex over the objectionable remarks made by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary against President Droupadi Murmu. Displaying placards, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with other party MPs raised slogans against the Congress. They also demanded an apology from Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Meanwhile, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary has clarified that he mistakenly made the remarks.”
