Hubballi: The North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) has introduced digital payment options for purchasing tickets on board their buses on selected routes on pilot basis.
This move is aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and addressing issues faced by conductors in providing change for passengers with large denomination currency notes when paying for small-ticket fares.
NWKRTC Managing Director, Bharat S, initially discussed his plan to test this service on a trial basis at a depot primarily involved in premier operations. He later conducted a poll on Twitter to gather input from the public.
The pilot program’s main objective is to assess its feasibility and gather feedback from passengers. If it proves successful, Bharat S intends to expand the service to other locations.
On Saturday, senior officials of NWKRTC launched this digital payment service at the Gokul Road bus stand. For passengers using UPI for payment, the transaction details will be printed on their tickets.
