36 nursing students at the National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER, Chandigarh have been banned from leaving their hostel for a week. The ban was issued after the students failed to attend a program on the 100th episode of Mann Ki Baat, aired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reported Indian Express.
As per the letter issued by the institute’s principal, the students were warned that their outings would be cancelled if they did not attend the lecture. However, despite reminders, 36 students did not attend.
The ban was imposed to maintain discipline, said the principal, and was not a result of the students missing the program. The decision has been criticized by the state president of Chandigarh Youth Congress as a “dictatorial decision.”
