New Delhi: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has clarified that there are no plans to merge Thokur railway station, along with the Mangaluru region, into the South Western Railway (SWR). In response to a question posed in Rajya Sabha by BJP member Narayan Koragappa, the minister stated that although initially the railway board had considered the merger, it was later decided, after detailed discussions and considering operational necessities, to retain the existing arrangement without any changes.
Regarding the introduction of the Vande Bharat Express service between Mangaluru and Bengaluru, the minister explained that the process of starting such services is ongoing. The decision to launch the new Vande Bharat Express will be based on a thorough evaluation of operational possibilities and passenger traffic.
