Hubballi: “There is no dearth of Covishield vaccine in the district; actually, there was no demand for the vaccine. A fresh request was made to the government to supply the vaccine, and it would be available soon,” said Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde.
Speaking to www.hubliexpress.com, the DC said, “If we place an order without any demand, the chances of a valuable vaccine getting wasted are high. We have placed the order, and it will arrive soon. And people will be notified once it is available so that beneficiaries can be immunised by taking the COVID booster dose.”
District RCH Dr. SM Honakeri said that the district utilised all the COVID shield vaccines by December 19 and 20; not a single dose was sent back or wasted.
Those who got Covishield/ Covaxin can take Corbevax as a booster dose
Dr. Honakeri said those who had Covishield or Covaxin as their first or second dosage can have Corbevax as the third booster injection. The government has allowed mix-and-match use of the vaccine, and Corbevax has been approved for heterologous booster doses in adults. But those who have taken Corbevax as the first and second doses can’t take Covishield or Covaxin as the booster dose, he said.
