On Monday night, the Kerala health department issued a health alert in Kozhikode following the suspicion of Nipah virus (NiV) infection in two individuals who had died under “unnatural” circumstances in the district. State Health Minister Veena George revealed that one of the deceased’s relatives has also been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has now confirmed two deaths due to the Nipah virus in Kerala’s Kozhikode district. This confirmation came shortly after a district-wide health alert was declared in response to the initial reports of two “unnatural” deaths at a private hospital.
Mandaviya stated, “A central team has been dispatched to Kerala to assess the situation and provide assistance to the state government in managing the Nipah virus outbreak.”
The first death occurred on August 30, and the second death was reported on Monday, as per news agencies.
