Bengaluru: Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education Minister Dr. K Sudhkar who will be chairing a marathon meeting in Bengaluru today said that he and experts would deliberate on the steps to be taken to curb the spreading of the Covid infection including the new variant. He said that it is not fully known how the new variant of the Covid behaves, whether it is highly contagious than another variant.
“The only concern is what will be the intensity of the new variant of the virus in terms of spreading, causing illness. If infected suffered mild symptoms and recovers quickly then it is fine, but if it causes severe illness and is highly contagious then it is a cause of worry,” the minister said.
Dr Sudhakar said in today’s meeting they would discuss the Omicron variant, intensifying the vaccination, and preparedness to curb the spreading of the infection.
Two passengers who returned from South Africa have tested positive for the Covid infection and their report of genome sequencing yet to arrive, he said.
