Nehru Museum Renamed Only to Destroy Legacy of Pt Nehru: Congress
New Delhi, Hubli Express News Service: A fiery verbal confrontation unfolded between the BJP and Congress parties in the aftermath of the renaming of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML). The Congress alleged that the motive behind renaming this iconic establishment was an attempt to manipulate the historical significance of India’s first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
In response, the BJP countered by accusing Congress of practicing “Pariwarvaad” (dynastic politics). The NMML, situated on Teen Murti Marg in the capital city, has now been officially rechristened as the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society. This decision to rename the institution was made in the month of June.
Having been known as Flagstaff House during the British colonial period, this structure had previously served as the residence for the Commander-in-chief of the British forces. After India gained independence, it was transformed into the official dwelling place of Prime Minister Nehru. Following his passing, it underwent a conversion into a library and museum.
