Hubballi, By Hubli Express News Service: Mission Smile, a registered medical charity with 80-G and FCRA certifications, has teamed up with the Muthoot Pappachan Foundation and KLE Suchirayu Hospital to conduct a series of free cleft lip and cleft palate corrective surgeries for children and young adults in Karnataka. These surgeries will be provided at no cost and will take place from September 22nd to September 25th at KLE Suchirayi Hospital.
This marks the inaugural medical mission of the hospital, and thus far, under this initiative successfully operated on 312 patients in the state of Karnataka.
The surgeries for the pre-screened patients are scheduled to be performed from September 23rd to 25th.
Dr. Pallavi Karadiguddi, a maxillofacial surgeon, addressed the press and highlighted the prevalence of cleft lip and cleft palate issues, occurring in approximately one in every 700 live births. She explained that these deformities can result from factors such as inadequate maternal care during pregnancy, a lack of essential vitamins like folic acid, unhealthy habits like tobacco use, smoking, and drinking during pregnancy, as well as hereditary factors and marrying within close family circles.
