Ramanagar: Former CM HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy, grandson of JD(S) patriarch HD Deve Gowda, will contest the next Assembly election from the Ramanagar constituency.
Her mother, Ramanagar MLA Anitha Kumaraswamy, announced this on Saturday, during Pancha Ratna Yatre in the town. Her husband, Kumaraswamy, and son, Nikhil, were present when she announced his candidacy. She requested the public bless him as well.
In the last Assembly election, former CM Kumaraswamy contested from Channapatna and Ramanagar, and he won both seats, but he resigned from the Ramanagar seat, causing a by-election for Ramanagar Assembly constituency, in which his wife Anitha won. Now the mother has sacrificed the assembly segment and allowed her son to contest.
Nikhil Kumaraswamy ran for Parliament from Mandya in the last election but was defeated by independent candidate Sumalatha Ambarish. Nikhil, the state president of the JD(S) youth wing, is 32 years old.
