Hubballi: Jagadish Shettar, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka, suffered his first electoral defeat in his political career, losing to BJP candidate Mahesh Tenginkai in the Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency by a margin of 34,053 votes.
Speaking to hubliexpress.com, Shettar attributed his defeat to the role of money power in the election, stating that the opposition party distributed money widely, even in posh localities, and that this had impacted the poll results.
He expressed disappointment that some of his supporters, including corporators, had been threatened and pressured by influential BJP leaders to withdraw their support. However, he stated that he was happy that the Congress had won in large numbers in the Kittur Karnataka region and that party leaders, including Randeep Surjewala and KC Venugopal, had called him to express their support.
Despite his defeat, Shettar remained committed to the Congress party and said that he would take up any job assigned to him by the party. He ruled out the possibility of returning to the BJP, stating that the party had humiliated him in the past.
