Hubballi: A 56-year old pillion rider died on the spot after she came under the wheels of a tanker at Shiroor Park Circle in the city on Monday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Basavva Bharamraddi Annigeri, a resident of Tajnagar, Tahsildar Colony.
According to the police, the mother was riding pillion on her son’s bike and they were heading towards Unkal and were waiting at the circle for the signal to turn green so they could go, while a tanker was also waiting behind the bike at the circle.
As the light turned green, the tanker driver abruptly pushed the truck, and the tanker dashed the bike on the tanker’s right side.
Both mother and son tumbled to the ground, but the mother was crushed by the truck’s back wheels and died on the spot. The son suffered minor injuries.
The North Traffic police have registered a case in this regard. The tanker driver Rudragouda Patil of Matolli village of Savadatti taluk was arrested.
