Dharwad: Recently, fraudsters have created a fake Facebook account of Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil and sought money from the DC’s Facebook friends.
According to the complaint registered by the DC’s personal assistant, the fraudsters created a fake ID in the name of Nitesh Patil and uploaded the DC’s profile picture to it. The creation of a fake ID came to the notice of the DC’s PA and he immediately brought it to the notice of DC and, based on the instruction of DC, he registered a case with the Cybercrime police.
It is not clear whether the fraudsters created a fake profile of DC’s personal Facebook account or the Dharwad DC’s official handle.
Police said the fake Facebook profile scam has become common, in the past fake profiles of many cops were created, hence the public should be careful and they should not entertain any message from the person who is already your friend and asking for money from Facebook messenger and should bring to the notice of concerned person.
