Miscreants beat a police constable in Dharwad


Dharwad: A group of nine people allegedly attacked a constable who was on duty in Chandanmatti village in Dharwad taluk on Friday, according to local media sources.

The constable has been identified as Chidnand Abbigeri, attached to Dharwad Rural police station. According to the sources, villagers of Chandanmatti had organised a bullock cart race in the village and they blocked a road. Based on the information, Chidnand, who was on duty, visited the spot where the road was blocked, and he asked a group present there not to block the road, as the vehicle movement would be disturbed.

The irate group allegedly started attacking him for giving them advice, and the irate group dumped his bike in a nearby gutter, said the police sources.

The Dharwad Rural police have registered a case against Shankar Morabad, Shivaraj Morabad, Nagaraj, Harish Mudkai, Sahadev Chinnanavar, Mahantesh Kudekar, Girish Desai, Raju Piroji, and Prakash Hullambi.
