Hubballi: Mayor Iresh Anchatgeri has sent a note to the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) Commissioner asking him to appoint an agency to conduct a stability survey of all the commercial, non-commercial, government, and residential buildings that are more than 50 years old and structures that are more than 12 metres high.

He said that corporation has the power to identify such risky buildings and have the power to demolish them. Recently, Belagavi Municipal Corporation conducted a survey of such buildings within its limits, and they have data on the dwindling buildings, he said, and asked the commissioner to identify such buildings and serve notice to the owners to strengthen their buildings. If the building is so weak, then serve notice to them to demolish the building on their own. If they fail to respond to the notice, the corporation has to demolish them and recover the expense from the owners. He asked the commissioner to appoint an agency that was an expert in the work and get a report from them at the earliest.
