Hubballi: Mayor Iresh Anchatgeri has ordered Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) Commissioner Dr Gopal Krishna to name the Idgah ground (Commonly called) after freedom fighter Rani Chennamma.
The order of the mayor followed a ruling in the general body, BJP Corporator Santosh Chavan brought this issue to the attention of the meeting on August 28 through a notice.
Santosh Chavan had requested that ground-bearing CTS number 174 in ward number 57 be named after the freedom fighter Kittur Rani Chennamma.
The mayor has instructed the commissioner to name the ground bearing CTS 174 ( commonly called Idgah Ground) after Rani Chennamma.
Speaking to hubliexpress.com, Mayor Iresh Anchatgeri said that it is the HDMC property, and it was decided to name it after the freedom fighter in the general body, and based on that ruling, the commissioner was instructed to erect a board. The ground had no official name, he said.
