Dharwad: Two officials at the Deputy Director of Pre University (DDPU) office in Dharwad were apprehended by the Lokayukta police while in the act of accepting a bribe. The arrested officers were identified as Section Officer Durgadas Masuti and FDA Nagaraj Hugar.
The Lokayukta police’s actions followed a complaint by Subash Chouraddi, a retired in-charge principal of a PU College in Yeliwal, Kundagol. Chouraddi reported that the two officials at the DDPU office, Masuti and Hugar, had demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000. This sum was sought to expedite paperwork related to Chouraddi’s retirement and his entitled allowance for his tenure as the in-charge principal.
Taking swift action, the Lokayukta police registered a case and devised a plan to catch the officials red-handed. The operation led them catching Masuti and Hugar while they were in the process of receiving the bribe from the complainant.
Guided by the expertise of Lokayukta Superintendent of Police Satish Chitagubbi, the successful raid was executed under the leadership of DySP Vijay Biradar. The operation team was composed of inspectors KB Banne and SB Hiremath.
