A viral video captured by a personal CCTV camera in Savarkundla, Amreli district, Gujarat, is drawing attention as it shows a dramatic encounter between two Asiatic lions and two pet dogs. The footage, recorded approximately 76 km from Gir National Park—the sole habitat of the Asiatic lion in India—depicts a tense standoff at a gate separating the animals.

In the video, a lion approaches the gate when one of the dogs suddenly appears on the other side. The initial clash is brief, but tensions escalate as a second dog joins the fray. The lions react by forcefully ramming the gate, and one lion ultimately breaks through. Despite the intense interaction, the lions retreat into a nearby bush, possibly distracted by distant sounds.

A guard, carrying a torchlight, emerges to investigate and then secures the gate, ensuring the lions do not return. This incident underscores the recurring encounters between domestic animals and wildlife in Gujarat, particularly near Gir National Park, which is home to approximately 674 Asiatic lions, according to the 2020 census.

Historically, Asiatic lions had a broader range across India, but now their habitat is restricted to Gujarat. These encounters highlight the ongoing human-wildlife conflicts in the region, where both locals and wildlife conservationists play crucial roles in managing and protecting these majestic creatures.
