Leader of the Opposition, R Ashoka, to Lead Protest in Hubballi Against Arrest of Hindu Activist

Hubballi: R Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, is set to lead a protest in Hubballi tomorrow, condemning the arrest of a Hindu activist allegedly involved in a violence case from 1992.

Srikanth Poojari, a resident of Old Hubballi was arrested by the Hubballi-Dharwad Police in connection with a violence case that happened during Ram Janmabhoomi protest. In the FIR, Srikanth and eight others were mentioned as the accused. In that violence, a shop was set on fire and the Town police had registered a case.

Sources within the BJP have confirmed that R Ashoka will participate in a protest organized by the party. The saffron party has planned a statewide protest to condemn the activist’s arrest.

Ashoka will be visiting the city for the first time since assuming the role of Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly. On Tuesday evening, the BJP cadre held a meeting to outline the protest plans.
