Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President D K Shivakumar on Thursday wrote a letter to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai requesting him to withdraw the state government’s order to close bars, pubs, restaurants, lodges, and restaurants across the state from Friday night to Monday morning in view of the weekend curfew.
Shivakumar said that the business sector already suffered losses due to two previous lockdowns; the state government’s order to close these business establishments would only increase their problems. The order poses problems for the floating population visiting the state’s capital, he said and gave an example of how other countries have not resorted to the stricter curbs despite witnessing a great number of COVID cases every day.
He said in countries like the US and others, the governments of those countries have not taken such harsh and antisocial steps.
The KPCC president, in the same letter, mentioned Ramanagar Deputy Commissioner’s order to close all the tourist places in the district to the public. Shivakumar said the DC’s order would impact local businesses and cause a loss to the government’s exchequer. Hence, I request the CM to revoke the order, considering all the above-mentioned points.
