Koppal: two died in a group clash

Koppal: Two persons succumbed to injuries in a group that erupted allegedly over the installation of a Valmiki statue in Hulihaider village in Kanakagiri taluk on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Yankappa Talwar, 60, and Pashawalisab Maligaddi, 28, both residents of the same village. Another person called Dharmanna Harijan suffered serious injuries. He has been shifted to KIMS Hospital in Koppal, after initial treatment at Gangavati Taluk hospital.

Following a clash between two communities, the situation in the village is under control. As a precautionary measure, the administration has clamped prohibitory orders around 2 km of the village till August 20.

According to the local sources, Muslim community and Nayak community used to indulge in a minor altercation over the installation of the Valmiki statue on a land in the village, both communities used to argue over this disputed land, and the Muslim community people had observed Muharram on the said disputed land, this led to a heated argument between these two communities and it ended in violence, said sources.

Koppal Superintendent of Police did not respond to the calls made by Hubli Express. Additional forces are deployed in the village and the situation is as of now in control.
