Hubballi: According to Dr. RH Patil, the principal nodal officer of the GKMS unit at UAS Dharwad, the eastern parts of Kalaburgi, Raichur, Ballari, Yadgir, Vijayapura, Koppal, and Bagalkote districts are expected to face scorching temperatures in the range of 40 degrees Celsius from April 22 to 25. Some areas in these districts may even see the mercury soar up to 41 degrees Celsius.
In the Kittur region of Karnataka, the temperature is predicted to reach between 37-39 degrees Celsius. However, relief may be on the horizon for the people of North Interior Karnataka as light rainfall is expected during the night from April 26 for the next three to four days. This could lead to a drop in temperatures by a degree or two in the following week, as per Dr. Patil’s forecast.
During a heat wave or when temperatures soar, it is important to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Here are some tips to stay safe from the scorching heat:
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water and fluids to stay hydrated. Avoid drinks with caffeine, alcohol, and sugar as they can lead to dehydration.
Stay Indoors: Try to stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, typically from 10 am to 4 pm. If you must go outside, wear loose, light-colored clothing, a hat, and use sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun.
Stay Cool: Use fans, air conditioning or take cool showers to keep yourself cool. If you don’t have access to air conditioning, visit a public place that does, such as a library or shopping mall.
Take Breaks: Take frequent breaks if you are working or exercising outdoors. Rest in the shade and hydrate yourself with fluids.
Look Out for Others: Check on the elderly, children, and pets who are more vulnerable to the effects of heat. Make sure they are staying hydrated and keeping cool.
