Hubballi: Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), known as the lifeline of North Karnataka, is set to introduce a groundbreaking addition. The esteemed medical institute will soon establish an in-house immunology testing laboratory specifically for transplant patients.
KIMS Hubballi signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Thursday with BMST Immunology Laboratory (Rotary Blood Bank) to facilitate this service. The lab is expected to start functioning soon.
All pretransplant immunology tests will be conducted within the premises of the PMSSY Super Specialty Hospital building, where samples will be collected and CDC cross-matching will be performed. KIMS will provide the required space for the laboratory, but all necessary equipment and staff will be from the laboratory company.
Speaking to hubliexpress.com, Director Ramalingappa Antartani expressed his delight, emphasizing that this development will greatly benefit transplant patients and their families. They will no longer have to travel to Bengaluru to undergo these tests, saving them precious time, particularly during deceased organ donation procedures. This facility will be accessible not only to KIMS patients but also to individuals from the entire North Karnataka region who are in need of transplants.
Dr. Ramalingappa further explained that previously, samples had to be sent to Bengaluru by flight or transported via vehicle, which was quite burdensome for the patient’s relatives. This new facility will not only benefit KIMS patients but also serve other hospitals throughout North Karnataka. After Bengaluru, KIMS will be the sole institute in the region to provide this vital immunology testing service.
KIMS Medical Superintendent Dr. Arun Kumar C, Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajashekhar Dyaberi, Dr. Venkatesh Moger, and others were present on this occasion.
