Hubballi: It is yet another feather in the cap of Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, the region’s premier health institute, also known as Sanjivini by locals, which is set to start offering Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in cardiology and Master of Chirurgiae (M.Ch) in gastroenterology surgery, both super speciality courses from the next academic year (2022-23).
With the start of the next academic year’s course, KIMS will become the first government medical college in North Karnataka to offer these super speciality courses.
The health institute is already offering M.Ch in Urology. In the state, DM in cardiology course is being offered by BMCRI and Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research Hospital, and an M.Ch in gastroenterology by BMCRI.
According to KIMS Director Dr. Ramalingappa Antaratani, the addition of these courses will increase the quality of health care delivered by these departments.
“We are delighted that KIMS has been granted permission to offer these super speciality courses. This is a momentous occasion for KIMS. We hoped to start these post-doctoral courses in at least four different branches. And we received approval to start cardiology and gastroenterology courses, and we are hopeful that we will receive approval to offer super-speciality courses in CVTS,” Dr Ramalingappa stated
According to Ramlingappa, KIMS is the state’s second government-run institute to offer a surgical gastroenterology degree. According to the Director, KIMS will provide two seats in both courses beginning this academic year.
